Buster Haas Minority Internship Program

The Buster Haas Minority lnternship Program, named after the late Buster Haas, a Dallas Morning News assistant managing editor for 32 years, aims to increase the number of minority journalists working in newsrooms across Texas. The program is sponsored by Texas Managing Editors.

COMMITMENT FROM TME TO THE INTERN

TME places interns at Texas newspapers with circulations of 30,000 or less for 10-week summer internships. Students receive $3,000 stipends, plus $1,000 for living expenses. Upon successful completion of the internship. students receive $500 scholarships.

COMMITMENT FROM THE INTERN TO TME

Internship candidates should have a genuine interest in being selected as a Buster Haas intern. Interns should be committed to conducting themselves to the highest professional and journalistic standards in their host newsrooms and in the communities served by the newspapers. Each candidate must have a reliable car for their internship.

APPLICATION PROCESS

All applicants must:

  1. Complete the internship application.
  2. Submit a one-page resume detailing any previous journalism experience and listing contact information for references.
  3. Submit a cover letter explaining your career goals and how the internship would help you meet them.
  4. Submit two letters of recommendation.
  5. Share links to three to five published works.
